The booster fan, also known as the desulfurization fan, is a critical piece of equipment in the flue gas desulfurization system of coal-fired power plant units. It primarily serves to overcome the system resistance of the Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) unit and ensures stable pressure at the outlet of the boiler induced draft fan by introducing raw flue gas into the desulfurization system.
The working principle of the two-lobe Roots blower involves two "figure-8" shaped rotors positioned on opposite sides of the cylinder, each equipped with intake and exhaust ports. Thanks to a pair of synchronized gears, the two rotors rotate in opposite directions. As they mesh with each other, the intake and exhaust ports remain completely sealed, effectively displacing the gas within the cylinder's volume—thus achieving the blower's intended purpose.
